Natural Hair: Hair Care On A Budget

Hey ladies, i'm back. this is just a quick post on how i maintain my hair care on a tight budget. Because lets face it, as nice as some of these luxury products are, they pinch the pocket! So like many, i have my everyday products as well as my treat myself products that i use once or even twice a
month! Remember these products work well for me along with these methods but they may not give you the same results. Don't be disheartened though, there is a product for you! And it shall be found! I hope this post is informative and helps you when there are months when you need to tighten your belt!

Hair Tools: Hair tools can last a long time, granted some do have their expiry dates, and for me, when times get tough nothing really beats the pound store, considering the majority of them are stepping up their game on the quality! I recently got a small rat tail smoothing brush from Poundland which has been going for awhile, as i have a TWA it is great for when i want to rock a mini puff. Wilkinsons are good for comb packs, as well as small hair shops - but be careful their prices aren't always cheaper than say Wilkos!

Shampoo: More recently i have come across the naturals range by TRESemmé, and i love it. I cannot speak for the girls who are doing the curly girl method but this has no sulfates in it and it smells great and i tell you what it's a great price! 750ml for £2.47 As of 16-3-14*  The shampoo does the job! I normally use this at the end of a week of full on products, gels, creams, oils the lot. It cleans the scalp and leaves the hair feels soft! If you are using the CGM why not use Dudu Soap aka Black Soap? It costs me £0.99 for one bar and lasts me ages! It's great for hair, and skin!

Conditioner: Yet another bargain it is the TRESemmé naturals conditioner, same size same price! What i love about this conditioner is it has multiple uses at least 3! 1. Conditioner after shampooing or a conditioner for co-washing! 2. Deep conditioner mixed with the right stuff leave this on overnight and you're good to go, no need to spend £8+ on a one time use product! 3. Great for trigger bottles just add a teaspoon of conditioner and some water enough for the week!

Oils: Oils, the must have for natural hair no matter what your hair type! Some oils can be expensive, however just because Jane is using BJCO (black jamaican castor oil) doesn't mean you have too! Before i got hooked on BJCO i used EVOO (Extra Virgin Olive Oil) which works just as well! And believe me you do NOT need to use any fancy supermarket brand, i was using your bog standard Asda brand which cost me £3.75 for 1lt! You can also use Africa's Best Herbal Oil which can cost anything between £1.99-£2.50 depending on the prices in your local hair shop. Bonus these oils together can be used as a hot oil treatment! If you want to try a different range of oils Superdrug actually have KTC Almond & Jasmine  hair oils for £1.45 each.

Gel: Not all naturals use gel, and you know, thats fine i don't use gel all the time, however some gels are are to buy! i use Eco Styler, great gel, great hold! You can also use the cheaper, softer on the hair version Fantasia IC Aloe Vera! This was the first gel i used when i did the BC and if i'm honest i don't know why i didn't stick to it, i got a large tub for around £1.99 (prices may vary to local shops) and i hardly made a dent in it considering how much i was using (made so many mistakes in my first week lol) Great gel!

Curl Definer: Okay, so we all know that Gel can be a great way to define your curls (duh!) BUT There are cheap products for the sisters who don't really want to clog up their hair with gel, try Twisted Sista this is NOT for the women who are CGM! Twisted Sista have two curl definer products, one being a cream base and another is a spray both are £1.99 each from superdrug, tesco and asda!

Lotions/Leave ins: Finding the perfect hair lotion is what we all strive for, we what the lotion to keep our hair soft and keep it healthy! So i'm going to list a few that i use when money is tight and that seem to have the effect needed. * Prices will vary
  • Palmers Hair Milk - £4.99
  • Palmers Gro Therapy - £4.59
  • Olive Oil Leave In - £2.60*
  • Olive Oil Hair Mayo - £2.60*
Hair Treatment: We all know we need to treat our hair sometimes one packet of treatment is enough, sometimes we like to have a tub of treatment. If you're using a one time packet you should be able to buy one from your hair shop for only £0.99 and if you don't use all of it, pop the rest into a travel size bottle and pop in the fridge to use in the next two weeks. Below are a list of my fave tub hair treatments.
  • Vatika Egg Protein - £5.99
  • Dark 'n' Lovely - £1.69
So those are the essential things i buy when i'm on a tight budget, sometimes when you're on a budget you can't buy out the whole hair store as us (me) product junkies like to do lol, this 'guide' isn't for those who make their own products, like me i use my own shea butter whip this is just for those months when money is tight because you got those shoes you wasn't meant to buy lol. Hope it helps!
